Backyard Beans love of roasting coffee began in their backyard with a Weber grill. The idea of selling their own roasts didn't occur until they noticed that their local farmers’ market had none to offer! They recognized a need at other markets and were compelled to bridge the gap. Within a year, they found themselves in the middle of a flourishing coffee roasting business, complete with professional roasters and a new commercial space. It's amazing how quickly their business grew!

The company name came about due to all the work that was initially done in their backyard. Their logo is also significant because the owner's initials of Laura L. Adams and Matt Adams spell “L.L.A.M.A.” Their name and logo together reflect the hard work and dedication that goes into creating their superior coffee. In many ways, Backyard Beans is a labor of love.


Backyard Beans only purchases superior, responsibly sourced coffee beans. Working with importers to source sustainably grown coffee from around the world is something the team takes great pride in. Great coffee begins at the heart, with hard-working farmers and co-ops. By sourcing responsibly, they are doing their part to secure a sustainable future.

Backyard Beans is a local farmers' market staple! They have also grown to find themselves in nearly 100 retail/restaurant locations. They are thankful for the businesses and individuals who love and serve Backyard Beans Coffee at their table.

BREAKFAST BLEND

This blend is made with in season Latin American coffees, that it has become a breakfast favourite among their coffee fans. This coffee offers a sweeter flavour, with underlying notes of chocolate and a nutty finish.

PUNCH IN THE FACE

Punch in the Face is a coffee from the COMSA cooperative that was formed in the year 2000 by 61 coffee farmers. They were seeking more sustainable prices for their coffee so they became certified organic to receive premiums for their coffee. In February 2006, COMSA became Fair Trade certified enabling them to receive more premiums for their crop. COMSA uses their funds for many social projects.

ETHIOPIA

Basa, their 2020 Good Food Award winner, makes quite the journey to them from Ethiopia. Mekurya Basa and his family in Idido, Yirgacheffe cultivate, pick, and dry their own coffee from their 12 acre farm. They belong to a collection of farmers who are working together to secure a better future for themselves by taking more ownership over the steps of production. Their importer, Keffa, has been working with this collection of farmers for the last 3 years. They are thrilled to have this fruity and floral coffee back.
